What To Expect
Overview
Once you contact me, or I contact you, we will have a brief conversation on the phone. In this conversation, we will discuss what you are looking for (individual, couple, family, child), what your fee will be based on my sliding scale, and when to schedule your first appointment.
Both of my offices have a lobby so if you arrive early, please have a seat. I may be on my way, around the office, or in session with another client. I will come out to the lobby and introduce myself and invite you in at our scheduled session time. Once you come in, I will ask you to tell me what brings you, and we will go through some paperwork regarding consent, confidentiality, and a fee agreement. You are free to ask any questions or gain clarification about anything you would like. I will ask you what your goals are and how you will know you have achieved them. Further, I will answer most all questions, unless I feel they are too personal. The remaining time will be spent beginning our journey to a new life.
In our counseling sessions I’m going to do a lot more than sit, listen, nod, and put you on the spot. I see my role as a supportive coach and team member, helping you create the kind of relationship you want. I would also like you to give me feedback along the way about how sessions are working for you and how they can become more effective and beneficial. Remember, this is your therapy, your time, you money, and your life goals. I am just guiding you through the way. I want to make sure we are on the right track together.
The number of sessions that a client(s) comes in for varies based on their ability to pay and time. However, I see most all of my clients on a weekly basis. We will schedule a day and a time that works best for both of us, and that becomes our weekly scheduled appointment time. Then, as therapy progresses, and the client feels like their goals are being met, they may decided to reduce the number of sessions per month from four to two until they are ready to terminate. The last factor depends on the nature of their concerns and how quickly they are able to integrate the tools they learn into their lives.
